Don't be a stiff!

Are you like me?  I avoid taking family photos (where I'm in front of the camera) like the plague!

I have this notion that in order to take a great family photo, everyone must look formal, well manicured, and in the best shape of their lives.

Well, nothing can be further from the truth...well at least for a few of the points above.

Yes, please take the time to do your hair, nails, and makeup.  Yes, be selective in what you wear, however, you don't need a three piece suit or a formal gown in order to take a photo.  If that's the look you're going for, great!  Do just that...but don't think it's a must.  Now as far as being in shape...well, round is technically a shape, right?  All kidding aside, think about this.

I have mentioned this before, and there's a reason why.  People love you no matter how big or small you are.  People love you for what you look like this very instant.  You don't need to lose 5 or 10 pounds.  It's always a good idea to have goals in life, but the truth of it doesn't matter.  At least not to the ones who truly love you!

So like stated above..."Don't be a stiff!!!"  Schedule a photo session and have some fun.  The photos where your personality pours out are the best ones.  After all, everyone already knows what a goof ball you really are!!!  And yes, don't forget to take a few "more serious" poses.

Elevate your gifting game!

If you're anything like me, you still have some Christmas shopping to do.

I love the holidays, but I get so caught up in the moment that I forget to pick up gifts for my loved ones.  As a matter of fact, I'm going shopping today to get that taken care of.

The list of potential gifts can paralyze even the strongest of shoppers.  Not knowing what to buy your loved one can cause delays in gift purchasing, which could create undue stress in your life.  Should you purchase him or her the latest iPhone?  Maybe you should get them a Michael Kors purse or wallet?  Or even better, maybe you can just pick up a diamond pendant necklace or a Breitling watch.

Chances are, you have already bought all these items for your loved one.  Why not elevate your gift giving game and purchase them something you have never considered and something they will remember forever.

Purchasing a photo session with me is not only getting stunning images that you will cherish forever, it's giving them the gift of an awesome experience.  Every session is unique and customized to fit you specifically.  I take care to listen, plan, discuss, and execute the photo shoot in an organized (but not stuffy) fashion. When we work together, it will be like catching up with an old friend.

Contact me through the "Contact" section of my website to set up a no obligation consultation.  From there, we will be on our way to giving your special someone a gift they will brag about all 2017!  Youll be the hero this Christmas season!

Happy Holidays!!!

Professional photos are NOT for you!!!

Have you ever thought, “Professional pictures aren’t for me?”  Well I’m here to tell you that you’re absolutely right…they aren’t for you!

Many times people put off getting professional photos by claiming that photos aren’t their thing, or that they want to lose a few more pounds before they take photos.

You’re not alone.  These and many other reasons have been used time and time again for not taking yearly family photos.  I’m going to list a few reasons why you should take professional family photos despite it not being “your thing”.

1.  People love you they way you are TODAY!  I myself have put off taking photos for the pure reason of not looking how I wish I looked.  Yeah, I wish I was as hard as The Rock…but let’s face it, I love tacos too much!  It’s a harsh truth, but no one cares how you look.  Your loved ones love you whether you’re ten pounds lighter or not.  Not to mention…don’t let that zit get in the way of your family photos.  Skilled photographers (at least the good ones) will take off any blemish you may have without making you look like a plastic doll.  Please confirm this however, by looking at their work prior to booking.

2.  This is the perfect time of year to take family photos.  The holiday season is when siblings and other family members come from all over the world to visit with one another.  Bobby and Sue come home from their college holiday break.  Brenda, her husband, and their new baby bundle of joy come back to Texas from Nebraska.  Why not take this opportunity to have a specialized session?  And we’re not talking about the same old boring photos of years past, today’s photos are fun filled and exude our personalities.

3.  Let’s face it…your family is gorgeous!  Family photos make the BEST in home and office décor.  Why do you think beautiful people’s photos are in every frame for sale at your local Michael’s?  It’s because it works…because beauty sells.  Why not fill your home or office with photos of your attractive family members?

4.  Memories are very powerful!  No one ever sets out to capture the bad times.  It’s in the good times that people always pick up their phone to take snapshots.  This is because memories of those good times are what carries us through the bad times.  Yes, there will be bad times, but the more good times you captured, the easier those times will be.  Plus, looking at past family photos helps you reminisce and remember that everything will be all right.

5.  Growth!  Your family will never again be as it is today.  The members of your family are changing by the day.  They grow an inch or two a year.  Hairstyles change, the facial hair, height, etc.  Making it a point to take yearly photos helps you capture that constant change we don’t notice on a day-to-day basis.  Next thing you know, the kids are all grown up and headed to college.

6.  Our photos tell us what’s important to us.  Isn’t that a precious message to send to your family?  “You are important to me.”  We are so easily caught up in everyday life, chasing our dreams that we should at least stop once a year to capture that which is most important to us…our families.  So this year, I urge you to forgo that iPhone 7 or the latest Samsung smart phone and focus your energy on what matters most.  Even if you’re single, you have a family.  And don’t forget, our furry four legged friends make some of the most adorable family portraits.

I mentioned in the beginning that professional photos were not for you, and I still stand by my statement!  Professional photos are for those closest to us.  Whether immediate family members or members of our extended families, everyone will appreciate and love photos of your family.

Have a great holiday season!!!

A huge thank you to the Haley family for allowing me to be a part of their memories!!!

Five fabulous photo session tips!

‘Tis the season for family photos!

Professional photos are cherished for a lifetime and are an undeniable investment.  Looking picture perfect is a definite must! Here are five simple tips to help you get the BEST results when planning a photo session.

1. Color/Theme – Pick a minimum of 3 but no more than 5 colors.  Mingling complimentary colors will help make your photos pop without outright matching.  Remember, variety is the spice of life!!!

2. Wardrobe – Mix it up! Everyone in jeans is boring. Instead, have a few wear jeans and the others wear khakis.  Ladies, dresses and skirts work the same for you.  Additionally, guys can put on a blazer or sweater over their outfit and later take it off for a different look.  Ladies, break out the bling! Sequin and silk are eye catchers.

3. Location – Tie all of the above with a location!  Are you going for a country, urban,  classic, or playful look?  By now, your color and wardrobe should lead you to the answer.  Make sure you are not lost in the scene.  Simple is better when it comes to choosing a location.  Remember, you’re the star of the session!

4. Hair/Make-up/Nails – You’ve gone this far…don’t forget to look your absolute best!  They say the devil is in the details.  Well, this is like putting the icing on the cake.  Go the extra mile and get yourself beautified…after all, you are worth it…aren’t you?

5. Props/Accessories – As mentioned in the previous four tips, the little things make the biggest impact.  Not only will props and accessories enhance your photos, they will also help you get your mind off the camera.  From jewelry to flowers, less is more…but choose wisely!

Following these simple tips will make your session go smooth.  If you have any questions or need any assistance, please feel free to contact me.

I hope you have enjoyed these few tips.
